Many Beacons were lit across Britain on May 8 2015 to commemorate the end of the Second World War in Europe. Exactly 70 years previously, beacons were lit as part of the national celebrations. Sunday 10th May was the final day of VE Day 70th Birthday Celebrations. A National Thanksgiving Service at Westminster Abbey - attended by seven members of the royal family - was followed by a veteran's parade along Whitehall. During the evening in Trafalgar Square, the famous 'V' for victory sign was presented using searchlights in a similar pattern to that seen in London on VE Day 1945.
